Modern LA POP UP: Local Mercato

Local Mercato is a modern pop up marketplace that disrupts the traditional retail experience we know today. By sharing ideas and bringing back the communal, social feeling of shopping - we offer a momentary break from the online world we all live in.

We’ve brought together some amazing female designers for a fun night out, they've inspired us and make us feel comfortable, casual, and sexy. We hope they have that same effect on you.

Coincidently, Local Mercato will host its first-ever pop-up event at the former Fred Segal Santa Monica space. Once an iconic L.A. marketplace of its own, known for housing the hottest mini-boutiques under one roof, Fred Segal became much of the inspiration for Local Mercato’s curated events. The retailer, founded in 1961, closed its Santa Monica location two years ago, but left an indelible mark on the beachside community’s shopping culture. “My concept was that people wanted to be comfortable, casual and sexy, so I thought it would work and obviously it did work,” Mr. Segal famously said. “But I don’t think people understand the depth of the psychology of this whole thing. That’s the core story of this.”

Segal manufactured a shopping experience like no other, drawing the community together at a place to see, be seen, and gather with friends. We hope Local Mercato will do the same for you.
